In addition to the main conference programme there will be workshops available to attend. These will be on at the same time as the conference programme and places are limited and provided on a first come first served basis.

Monday 30th September

13.45 - 15.00 - New to infection prevention and control

The objectives are to:

meet colleagues new to infection prevention and develop networks
discover what the IPS can do for you and what you could do for the IPS
use these opportunities to share and discuss experiences, anxieties and challenges

16.20 - 17.30 - Competences workshop

This practical workshop will be hosted by Margaret Tannahill, Consultant Nurse Infection Control, Care Inspectorate and other members of the IPS Educational and Professional Development Committee (EPDC)

The objectives of the workshop are to:

Identify a variety of uses for the IPS Competence Framework in relation to practice
Understand how the Competence Framework can be used for personal, team and service development
Exlore how the Competence Framework is being used in practice and by branches

16.20 - 17.30 - Mental Health workshop

Policy to practice - making it real in mental health

The objectives are to:

discuss the challenges of relating policy to practice in infection prevention and control in a Mental Health organisation
discuss what policy to practice actually means at grass roots level and how to engage and empower staff
enable the audience to take back practical information from the presentation to apply national guidance/directives within their organisation

Infections in injectibles

Amanda Miskell, Clinical Nurse Specialist Infection Prevention and Control/Physical Health, Cheshire and wirral Partnership

The objectives are to:

inform the audience of the recognisable risk of infections from injections in a Mental Health organisation
demonstrate the risk adjustments available i.e. harm reduction services
enable the audience to take back information from the presentation to influence change within their organisations

Tuesday 1st October

14.30 - 15.45 - Link Nurse workshop - Build a Link Nurse

At the end of the workshop participants will:

be aware of current activity both within the UK and Europe on the development and evaluation of link practitioner systems
be aware of personal competencies / factors that can support or hinder development of a link practitioner network
be able to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses and symbolise these through practical building of models
explore through peer support and networking where and how support is available to help them in practice
take away exercises to utilise in local practice with link practioners to build effectiveness and interest in infection prevention and control
